Finally! Deltaville, VA
On Sunday we left Norfolk, VA and started north up the Chesapeake Bay with a forecast for light winds from the east and 1 foot waves. The weatherman blew it again. The winds were 20 knots from the north and northeast meaning we were beating against heavy winds, waves, and tides. After trying sails, motor, and tacking we realized we could not make Deltaville in daylight and needed an alternate plan. We turned into the York River and anchored in Sarah Creek for the night. Not only did we get protection from the wind and waves, but we discovered a beautiful anchorage and visited with other boaters from Switzerland and Chicago who also took shelter in the creek. Monday morning the Bay was flat calm and we motored through rain arriving in Deltaville at 2pm. We are bone tired and grateful to have the opportunity for afternoon naps and full nights of sleep. We recovered our car which had been at the NAPA store all winter and slowly started the process of getting the boat ready to store for a few months. Our son, Carl, is still in the Azores and has posted some video links on his facebook to UTube about his Atlantic crossing. We hope this tiredness is just plain weariness and not the onset of old age!
