Update from Carl on the Atlantic
Our son, Carl, called by satellite phone to say that on Wednesday, 5/20/09 at 1:30pm EDT they are 150 miles west of Bermuda at N31.58 W 67.35. Yesterday their steering went out and they had to rig the emergency rudder. Bermuda and the winds are both east of them making it harder to get where they want to go. They had to sail north with the emergency rudder for 5 hours yesterday while they repaired the steering. All is well now and Carl expects they will arrive in Bermuda Thursday afternoon 5/21/09. He will check in with us again from Bermuda. If you would like to be in touch with him go to www.iridium.com. Click on "Send Satellite Message". The address (or phone number) is 881631566591. On the next line you enter your e mail address. You can send a message of up to 160 characters for free. He can reply to your message at sea. Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers for the safety of "Going" and her crew.
Linda and Loy are at Jekyll Island, GA tied up to the dock waiting for a big storm to blow itself out. For three days we have had winds gusting to 40 knots and heavy rain. The forecast offers the possibility that the winds will slow on Thursday 5/21/09 and we could then start north again. In about two days of travel we will arrive at Port Royal Landing Marina, Beaufort, SC.
