Deep Creek Lockmaster, Robert Peek

Robert Peek has been the lockmaster at the north end of the Dismal Swamp Canal in Virginia for 12 years. He collects conch shells and played a concert on several of them as the water rose in the lock. When he learned that we did not have a chart book we would need for Chesapeake Bay he ran inside his house and came back with his own copy. He said we could bring it back to him on our return trip. He also said that at his 8:30 am opening of the lock each morning he serves all boaters in the lock coffee and danish. You can't beat this for true southern hospitality.
