The Dismal Swam canal is anything but dismal. It is a national historic site surveyed under the direction of George Washington to move timber and commerce between Virginia and North Carolina. It was lovely two day trip despite the temperature in the high 90's F.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the Dismal Swamp. We found it very interesteing too - especially the coca cola colored water. We hope you stopped at the mid point dock by the roadside rest stop. We are enjoying revisitng these wonderful places with you. Let's hope the wind subsides for your trip into the Big Bay!
