Southport, SC
Continuing north on the ICW we nervously negotiated the narrow channel at Lockwood’s Folly. We waited at anchor one hour for the very unusual pontoon bridge to open and enjoyed the barrier island scenery. We arrived at Southport Marina at Southport, SC and walked the quaint town of Southport with Richard and Vicki Smith, enjoyed a restaurant meal and later cocktails aboard a SC sport fishing boat, "My Striker". We have decided that we will put "Sandpiper" in Bennett Brother’s boat yard in Wilmington, NC for hurricane season, but it will be a few days before they have space for us. While walking along the waterfront we reconnected with the Williams couple on their trawler,” Why Don’t We ….” , at its home berth in Southport. It was fun to see them again since we had spent time with them in Boot Key Harbor, Marathon, FL in the spring and had enjoyed oysters cooked on the dock that their friends brought to Florida from Southport. Loy didn't think he liked oysters. Now he does.
