South Santee River Anchorage
We left Charleston, SC on 6/7/05 traveling North on the ICW. At 3:30 pm we came upon the sailboat Chimera hard aground on the shoaling we were all trying to avoid. We waited with them until Tow Boat US arrived and radioed passing power boats to reduce their speed and wake. It was interesting to watch Tow Boat US secure Chimera’s bow lines and run their two 200 hp engines until the sand washed out from underneath the sailboat and she floated off. We anchored with them that evening in South Santee River. On the radio we began to get acquainted with Richard and Vicki Smith on Chimera from San Diego. Also anchoring in the area were Andre and Sue, a Dutch couple on the sailboat La Paloma de la Paz.
