Steamboat Landing Anchorage

We left Port Royal and traveled down the ICW all day arriving at an anchorage, Steamboat Landing on Steamboat Creek, 27 south miles from south of Charleston, SC. We had been warned by guidebooks and local sailors to watch carefully for shoaling but at noon we ran aground on a sandbar where there is an ocean cut entering the ICW. Fortunately we were on a rising tide and 15 minutes later were lifted off the bottom. Helpful captains on trawlers ahead of us radioed back the depth soundings until it was clear that the channel depth was workable. At Steamboat Landing we photographed the shelter which was used in the 1800’s by those waiting for steamboats to arrive. This may be the loveliest anchorage we have seen on the entire trip.
