We have visited with Jean and Charles Pounders at their home in Aberdeen, Mississippi for a week and three days. They have been very gracious to us and given us a welcome break from the rigors of living on the boat. We have met their friends and family, enjoyed hearing the “Almost Nothing Band” play classic country music in the wood working shop (see their picture). We have enjoyed southern hospitality and food! Loy has even had his fantasy breakfast!! We saw the Halloween trick or treaters on Saturday night and went to a Halloween costume party at the country club. We have enjoyed attending services at the First Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen the last two Sundays.

We visited Tupelo and Memphis by car where Loy saw doctors about back pain and had an MRI. .He has a herniated disk which needs rest and perhaps surgery. We plan another week and a half of rest and land touring before checking in with the doctor again and hopefully resuming the boat trip. We moved back onto Sandpiper at the Aberdeen Marina so we don’t wear out or welcome with our wonderful hosts.

Tonight we had a follow up phone call from Dr. Currie, our radiologist, who crossed the Atlantic with a 60’ sailboat and his 5 children on a two year trip to Portugal, Spain and Turkey. He invited us to come to Tupelo this week to talk sailing with him and his wife. We are taking a break in the trip to get healthy and will resume our journey South soon.

This week we have cell service and bought a cable to use with our cell phone to download e-mail—what a treat to be able to do e-mail on the boat abd not have to use a public library or share a single connection with lots of other boaters!
Keep in Touch

Loy and Linda
