Storm at Tilghman Island, MD

From Solomon Island we sailed to Tilghman Island with weather warnings of a storm to arrive in the afternoon. We tied up at the very nice little marina at Knapp Narrows and rode our bikes into town. When the sky turned dark we beat a hasty retreat to the boat and turned on the radar to see a severe cluster of thunderstorms which came over us with the heaviest rain we have ever experienced. The whole area lost power and we discovered the next day that a tornado had touched down about 8 miles from us. We have learned that squalls and thunderstorm come up frequently and sometimes unexpectedly in the Chesapeake Bay and can present real challenges. However, the beauty of many rivers, coves and anchorages in the Bay will draw us back here.
