A Portugese Man O War on Vero Beach, FL

We have seen these beautiful creatures at sea in the Abacos, but this was our first look at one up close washed up on the beach. The tenacles are still painfully dangerous to encounter. They are acutally not one organism, but a colony of organisms working together. They have no propulsion other than the blue "balloon" structure which is carried by the wind and waves.
