St. Augustine Lighthouse

The St. Augustine lighthouse was built in 1824 and replaced again in 1871 to replace the Spanish watchtower built in the 16th century to help sailors navigate the dangerous waters and shoals. The light was initially powered by lard, then kerosene and now electricity. It can be seen for 19 to 25 miles. We climbed to the top and enjoyed a spectacular view of the inlet from the Atlantic and the harbor waters.
