Naval Historical Note -'aye,aye'

Thanks to John Grey for this note: The term ‘aye, aye’ has a specific meaning in the navy and marine corps. It means ‘I have received your order, understand it and will comply’ – as opposed to land forces ‘yes sir or yes ma’am’ which means ‘I heard you and I’m thinking about it.’
