Making Way Through Alabama
It is Tuesday 11/16/04 and we are at a marina in Denopolis, AL. about 50 miles from Selma, AL, a town of historic civil rights note. Last night we anchored out and had the pleasure of seeing stars more clearly than we have seen them for years. Loy's back seems to be getting better with each day. Tomorrow start on the last stretch of the river with about 217 miles to the gulf. The area we are going through in the next few days is very remote and we will be anchoring each night. When we get 40 miles from the gulf we will begin to have salt water and tide and alligators.
Our friend from college days, Ann Ringland, is going to meet us in Mobile, AL and sail to Florida with us. The Dog River Marina in Mobile has our mast and will put it up for us. We hope to arrive there by early next week. We don't know where we will be for Thanksgiving, but it will be some where on the West Coast of Florida. We won't have any access to e-mail again until we arrive in Mobile.
