Petersburg, Virginia - The Breakthrough Battle

We visited the Pamplin Historical Park and National Museum of Civil War Soldiers in Petersburgburg, VA. General Grant attaced the Confererate troops here in an effort to breakthrough their ranks and take the Confereate capitol at Richmond, VA. They did break through and one week later General Robert E. Lee surendered the Confederacy at Apamadox courthouse. The cost in lives was terrible as they fought with the old tactics and the modern weaponry in close quarters. One of every eight soldiers died during the civil war.
