Returning to the Mainland
Yesterday we left Marsh Harbour and anchored for the night at Baker's Bay at Great Guana Cay. Coming out of Marsh Harbour we heard unusual noises on the drive shaft and the engine ran warmer than usual. When we arrived at Baker's Bay with its crystal clear water Linda discovered that we had a strange black line with a metal object to stern of us. Loy snorkeled on the prop and drive shaft and found that we had picked up a floating black polypropylene line with a dinghy anchor on it. Bob Henderson from the sailboat Adanaco who is an expert diver helped out. We cut away the line and brought the spare anchor onboard. Bob Knighton from the sailboat Syzygy also helped. Luckily the anchor was not driven into the hull of the boat which could have been a real problem. Bob and Ruth Henderson are returning to Canada after sailing to Granada where the rigging of their boat was destroyed in the hurricane.
The two part Sandpiper trivia question of the day is (1) what is the significance of the name "Adanaco"? (2) What is the meaning of the name of Lynda and Bob Knighton's sailboat "Syzygy"?
We crossed through the Whale Cay Passage in the Atlantic Ocean today with Linda at the helm all the way. We arrived today (Thursday) at Black Sound Marina at Green Turtle Cay. Calling channel 16 was blocked by a stuck microphone and we could not raise the dockmaster. Linda did some fast thinking and called him on the satellite phone and asked him to talk to us on VHF radio channel 14. It worked. The weather report says there are storms with squalls coming to Florida on Saturday night. We can not get there ahead of the storms, so we will wait here until there is a weather window. The forecast says it could be as long as next weekend before we can go. The good news is that this is the weekend for the Heritage Festival at the settlement of New Plymouth on Green Turtle Cay. We are already enjoying renewing friendships with residents made here last February.
